You may have heard some comments in the media recently about refunds due when a building consent lapses.

To confirm our position:

Where a customer has had a consent lodged, the cost of the consent has been deducted from their settlement, the consent has lapsed and the territorial authority has provided us with a refund - this refund will be passed on to the customer. It is important to note that if the cost of the consent was not deducted from the settlement amount, then any refund received will not be paid to the customer.

We are working closely with the local Councils to streamline the process for the provision of refunds. We will be communicating directly with affected customers to ensure any appropriate refunds are passed on.

In the meantime, if you believe this situation may apply to you, please contact your Claims Specialist in the first instance.
